From lust, to toxic marriages, then sin through divorce.

Jesus' teachings on divorce in Matthew 5:32 may seem unfair, especially when considering the harsh realities of toxic marriages. However, it's essential to understand the context and God's original design for marriage, as revealed in the biblical account of creation.

In the beginning, God created Adam and Eve, demonstrating that He is the one who unites people in relationships. This divine union is the foundation of marriage, and it's crucial to recognize that God is the author of marriage. When we forget this and seek partners based on feelings, lust, or superficial qualities, we risk entering toxic marriages that can lead to emotional, physical, and spiritual harm. Hence, leading to divorce, a sin that Jesus Christ warned us about.

God's original design for marriage is rooted in His goodness and desire for human flourishing. He created Eve to be Adam's helper and companion, and their union was meant to reflect God's love and wisdom. The answer to building a happy and successful marriage lies in prayer and believing that God is in control. A perfect husband, a perfect wife, all come from God, not from education, social class, or any other source. God is righteous, holy, wise, and all-knowing, and those who have known Him have experienced the joy and fulfillment of a healthy, loving relationship.

The devil is cunning and deceptive, using lust to lead people into toxic marriages. He knows that lust is a temporary feeling, one that will fade quickly, leaving behind a trail of disappointment and discontent. And yet, he uses this fleeting emotion to blind people to the truth, causing them to prioritize physical attraction over inner beauty and true love.

As soon as the lustful feelings fade, the devil leads people into sin through divorce. He whispers lies, telling them that they deserve better, that they need someone who truly loves them, and that they should move on to find happiness. But this is a trap, a cleverly designed scheme to lead people away from God's design for marriage and into a cycle of sin and heartache.

Lust is a dangerous game, one that leaves destruction in its wake. It causes people to become self-centered, prioritizing their own desires over the needs of their partner. It leads to infidelity, domestic violence, and emotional abuse. And when the lustful feelings fade, it leaves behind a toxic marriage that is often beyond repair.

God is not a liar, and He will never change His ways. Just as He authored a perfect marriage between Adam and Eve, He continues to do the same, to this very day. By seeking God's guidance and wisdom, we can avoid the pitfalls of toxic relationships and build strong, healthy marriages that honor Him.
